Summary
English: It is named after the Spanish scientist Miguel Catalán Sañudo in recognition of his work in Spectroscopy, a technique of enormous relevance in astrophysics, and particularly his discovery of multiplets in the spectrum of manganese, which was a breakthrough in the development of quantum physics. Catalán participated in the development of the B-S-C model of matter, contributing his experimental discoveries. The name was officially assigned by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) at its August 1970 congress in Sydney.2 The same name is assigned to the adjacent satellite craters on the lunar surface. |
