Next, grasp the testiclesfirmly between the thumb and fingers of the right hand, as in figure4, and draw them out with the adhering cords. The work should bedone quickly but not roughly, and the testicles and adhering cords Castrating and Docking Lambs. 11 should be drawn out with a steady pull. The wound should then bewashed with a good antiseptic, such as a weak carbolic solution,or a creolin or lysol preparation, as- shown in figure 5. When lambs are older than 3 weeks before the operation is per-formed the cords should not be pulled out but scraped off with aknife back of the testicle. The scraping is done to prevent excessivebleeding. Lambs should be kept quiet after they have been castrated. It isbest to perform the operation in the morning, so that they can bewatched during the day and attention given any that become tooweak from loss of blood.

Moreover,*lambs are more attractive and look neaterand deeper in the leg and twist if the tail is docked. When the tailsare left on females they are apt to fail to breed. The two preferable ways of removing a lambs tail are by using asharp knife or the docking irons. One man holds the lamb while theother performs the operation.
