| Description |
English: Castles of Leinster: Ballybur, Kilkenny Built in about 1588 by Richard Comerford, it is typical of the single family castles of the period, built primarily as protection against the warring factions that were at large in the countryside at this time. The Comerfords were in occupation in 1654, when its last resident John Comerford was banished to Connaught. He later forfeited his castle and lands to Brian Manseragh during the Cromwellian distribution survey of that period. |
