Summary
[edit]DescriptionCastle wall, The Newarke, Leicester.jpg |
English: The most impressive section of mediaeval walling in Leicester separates the churchyard of St Mary de Castro (the castle church) from The Newarke, the southern extension to the castle bailey added in the C14th. This section of wall is in what is now the garden of Newarke Houses Museum. According to Charles Billson's "Mediaeval Leicester", the holes are not gunports but most likely "putlog" holes used during construction. |
