В горной гряде Швабише Альб (Schwäbischen Alb) является родовым гнездом впервые упомянутого в 1061 году немецкого рода властителей, который с 14 столетия называется Hohen-zollern. После того, как в 1191 г. один из Цоллернов стал бургграфом Нюрнберга, род разделился. Франконские Гогенцоллерны получили в 1415 г. от императора Сигизмунда (Sigmund) титул курфюрстов Бранденбурга. Первоначальный замок был разрушен в 1423г. после длившейся много месяцев осады объединенными войсками южно-германских городов. Между 1454 и 1460 гг. замок был снова восстановлен, но с годами пришел в ветхость. В XV веке швабская линия Гогенцоллернов из-за раздела владений и войн между братьями существенно ослабла и их владения в 1576 г. были разделены на части: Хайгерлох (Haigerloch), Хехинген (Hechingen)и Зигмаринген (Sigmaringen). Род Хайгерлохов пресекся в 1634 г. А в 1869 г. прекратилась мужская линия рода Хехингенов. С 1850 по 1860 гг. строителем крепостей - полковником фон Притвицем (von Prittwitz) длилось восстановление замка в стиле историзма по проекту прусского главного архитектора Ф.A.Штюлера (F.A.Stüler), 3 октября 1867 в присутствии прусского короля Вильгельма I и фюрста Карла-Антона фон Гогенцоллерн-Зигмарингена состоялось торжественное открытие замка. Это мероприятие имело большое политическое значение, призванное закрепить влияние рода Гогенцоллернов на юго-западе немецких земель. До своей гибели на армейских маневрах в 1994 г. танкист принц Луи Фердинанд фон Пройсен (Louis Ferdinand von Preußen), внук последнего германского императора был главой дома Гогенцоллернов. In Der Bergkette Schwäbisch Alb ist ein stammesnest, das erstmals im Jahr 1061 von der deutschen Gattung der Herrscher erwähnt wurde, die seit dem 14.Jahrhundert Hohen-zollern genannt wird. Und im Jahr 1869 beendet die männliche Linie des Geschlechtes Hechingen Von 1850 bis 1860 war der Oberst von Prittwitz die Restaurierung des Schlosses im Stil des Historismus nach dem Projekt des preußischen Hauptarchitekten F. A. Stülers , Am 3. Oktober 1867 fand in Anwesenheit des preußischen Königs Wilhelm I. und Fürst Karl-Anton von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen eine feierliche Eröffnung des Schlosses statt. Diese Veranstaltung hatte eine große politische Bedeutung, die den Einfluss der Gattung Hohenzollern im Südwesten der deutschen Länder festigen soll. Vor seinem Tod auf Armee-Manöver in 1994 war der Panzer Prinz Louis Ferdinand von Preußen, der Enkel des letzten deutschen Kaisers war der Leiter des Hauses Hohenzollern.
