Description

Esta foto participó en el juego En un lugar de Flickr.

La zona donde se asienta el castillo debió contar desde antiguo con un puesto fortificado. La lucha reconquistadora contra los musulmanes y la defensa del ataque por mar de piratas y la protección del comercio mediterráneo fueron las razones debieron forzar la elección de este lugar para la construcción de un torreón de vigilancia, realizado por la familia de Sunyer alrededor del 1051, año en el que el conde Ramón Berenguer les cedió este territorio a cambio de la mitad de la pesca que realizara en el mar durante un determinado período de tiempo.

Pero fue en el siglo XII cuando los señores de Claramunt construyeron el castillo según el estilo románico. A finales de ese siglo los Claramunt se unieron por matrimonio a los Montoliu, y los descendientes comunes de ambas familias adoptaron como apellido el topónimo de su señorío de Tamarit.
