||
Description |
English: Cast cu-alloy thimble with individually drilled holes dating from the late medieval period, i.e. c. AD1550-1600. The thimble is complete with c. 250 individually drilled perforation, made by a 'thimbler. It is made from vey thin sheet metal and is now bent. It was found by the edge of the field, where, so it is said, in later medieval times the women sat to do needlework whils their husbands and other male relatives were working in the field, using as much daylight as they could. |
