Title
Cast copper alloy spout from a Medieval ewer
Description
English: Cast copper alloy spout from a Medieval ewer.

Medieval copper alloy ewer spout, dating to the 15th century. It was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via a long sloping seam.

The spout quickly tapers to become tubular with a moulded dogs head decoration on the spout terminal. The dog has slightly raised mounds for ears, its snout and eyes are represented by a concave depression with a sub-square spout protruding from its open mouth. This is a simple example of a well-known 15th century type; it would originally have been attached to a pedestal-base ewer.

This example is quite worn and some of the detail may have been lost.
