Title
Cast copper alloy lyre shaped one-piece buckle dating to c.1390-1420.
Description
English: Cast copper alloy lyre shaped one-piece buckle dating to c.1390-1420.

The plate is a hollow box shape, sub-rectangular in plan. The frame is missing but the pin is present (length = 24.91mm).

The plate is widest at the base. The front of the plate is decorated with a letter, possibly an M but it is not clear. Above the letter there is a moulded collar and then the plate narrows before widening again to take the pin. There is a recess where the pin sits, wrapped around a strap bar. The pin is simply a strip of copper alloy folded over the bar. At the top of the plate the start of the frame can be seen but it has broken after only a few millimetres.

Similar examples can be seen in Reads book on p.60/61, nos. 265, 266 (1995).
