Title
Cast copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period.
Description
English: Cast copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period. It is a single loop oval buckle. The outer edges are moulded with two raised transverse ridges decorating the outer edges of the frame. It has a narrowed and offset strap bar. The lip is notched. The pin remains attached and is a copper alloy wire pin which is folded around the strap bar. It is likely that the pin is a later repair as it has a light green patina while the buckle frame has a dark brown patina. The buckle can be dated to c. 1250-1400. A similar example is fig. 498 p91, Griffiths, Philpott and Egan (2007).
