Title |
Cast copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). It is a single looped D-shaped buckle with the rectangular buckle plate still attached. The frame of the buckle is decorated with six rounded knops of varying sizes. The strap bar is offset. The plate is attached to the strap bar by two folded hooks which merge into a rectangular plate at the back. Two rivets secure the plate. The plate is decorated with linear grooves around the edges and a vertical groove which divides the plate into two panels. Where the plate terminates, two fragmented rivet holes can be seen. Gilding is visible n the plate and in the grooves of the buckle frame. The buckle is likely to be a local variant, similar examples can be found on p21-23, Whitehead, (2003). It can be dated from c.1250-c1450. |
