||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy brooch dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). It is circular in plan with a wavy circumference. The upper surface is decorated with 22 small raised pellets. The internal circumference of the object is decorated with a twisted rope decoration, on which the remains of gilding can be seen. There are traces of gilding on the outer edges of the object also. On the upper surface of the object are the remains of deep blue enamel. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated.
The pin is rectangular in cross-section and remains attached. It is badly corroded and the reverse of the object is corroded also. A similar brooch is no.1640, p.143, Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, (2007). |
