Title
Cast copper alloy Medieval barrel padlock dating to the 14/15th century
Description
English: Cast copper alloy Medieval barrel padlock dating to the 14/15th century.

It is a slightly unusual shape. The barrel is rectangular with a widening in the middle. The base of the barrel is decorated with lines following the shape of the barrel. A rectangular tab is set at 90 degrees to the barrel and has a circular perforation about half way up. The pin comes from the top of this and runs parallel to the barrel. The pin is complete and is longer than the barrel (30.51mm). The padlock is 20.63mm in height.

The barrel is hollow and the end where the pin ends, there is a division splitting it into two. At the other end there is a hole in the base which is probably due to wear/use.

It is similar to padlocks found in Winchester and fits Goodall's Type C.
