Title |
Cast copper alloy D-shaped buckle dating to the Medieval period. |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy D-shaped buckle dating to the Medieval period. It is D-shaped in plan and has a narrowed and off set strap bar. The incomplete buckle plate is still attached to the strap bar. The plate has three large circular rivets. Remains of the leather are still present between the sheets of copper alloy which form the plate and are secured together by the rivets. The buckle plate measures 18.42mm in length, 29.13mm wide and is 2.92mm thick.
The frame is wide and has a notch where the pin still sits. The widest part of the frame is bordered with an incised line. Horizontal lines decorate the frame within the border. The reverse is undecorated. The buckle measures 28.11mm in length, 29.13mm wide and is 4.47mm thick. It has a dark green patina. A similar example is No. 51 from R. Whitehead ‘Buckles 1250-1800’ p19. |
