Description |
English: Case, rectangular, rounded edged case, burl wood (creates a type of fungus mottled look). Inlaid work of bands 10mm wide consists of strips of different woods (samples probably New Zealand natives) creates a decorative border, each corner has a square decorative inlay. Case lid has a lip of different wood circular hole in front body is for key. Case interior is lined with blue velvet fabric with space allowing for two violins placed top and tail. Four interior boxes (for loose bridges strings etc. Two boxes placed either side of each violins neck. Inside lid three ribbon strips and wood attachments allowing space for three bows to lie. 1 double case maker unknown, New Zealand, date unknown New Zealand native timbers including, burr totara, rewarewa, beech, steel, brass, velvet, linen, 780 x 305 x 155 mm 1998.60.10 Castle 13 Zillah commissioned this double case for the safekeeping of her favourite violins. |
