Illustration issue de l'article "Les tournans du Danube, dans la Basse-Autriche", Annales des Voyages, de la géographie et de l'histoire, Paris, F. Buisson, 1812, tome 17, p. 198-213. La Carniole a brièvement fait partie des Provinces Illyriennes conquises par l'Empereur Napoléon. Située dans l'actuelle Slovénie, cette région est faite de roches calcaires dont certaines sont pleines d'eau. Celles-ci, lorsqu'elles s'échappent de véritable "tissu cellulaire", forment de nombreuses cascades, dont celle de Wichein, ou Wichau.
