Description Casalduni è tristemente nota, insieme alla vicina Pontelandolfo, per gli eccidi compiuti dalle truppe sabaude dal 12 al 14 agosto 1861. Un battaglione di 500 bersaglieri comandati dal colonnello Gaetano Negri, divenuto poi sindaco di Milano, massacrò centinaia di cittadini e distrusse i due paesi incendiandoli. Molte donne furono stuprate prima di esser assassinate. Si cercò di nascondere l'eccidio bruciando ed occultando i cadaveri. Una lapide in prossimità del castello ricorda uno dei luoghi dell'eccidio.
