Summary

[edit]
Description In the past, fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, spices and flowers were grown for family use. However, much of the garden that is found in the courtyard today was originally planted as a romantic setting for "Ramona's Marriage Place," based on the 1884 novel "Ramona" by Helen Hunt Jackson. While La Casa de Estudillo had nothing to do with the novel, a local newspaper wanted to draw tourists to the sleepy little town, so they lied and said that to "Old Town (the house) is known as the Estudillos, but the outside world knows it as the marriage place of 'Ramona.'"
