DescriptionCasa canaria medianias santa brigida gran canaria.jpg |
English: In Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain). To the left was the actual house, a two story not much bigger than this one. This was probably a kind of storage room. The building to the right was the kitchen. In the Canary Islands outside kitchens were very common, due to the weather (not so cold and your house keeps cooler in the summer if no fire is made inside it) and because of the fear of fires, as the wood of choice for buildings was resinous heart of pine - the resin that protected it from insect and fungal attack also makes it burn easily.
