Summary
[edit]DescriptionCarved outcrop on Chattonpark Hill - geograph.org.uk - 1282246.jpg |
English: Carved outcrop on Chattonpark Hill. This large sandstone outcrop was carved with enigmatic cup and ring motifs in prehistoric times. The outcrop is known in rock art circles as Chatton 1a http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=121 being one of several in the vicinity. Much later Victorian visitors (possibly early antiquarians) added their own graffiti by carving names 329138. The view is south over the wooded plateau of Amerside Law with Ros Castle NU0825 in the far distance. |
