Summary

[edit]
Description

Carved figure made of wood from the toromiro bush which grows on Rapa Nui. The figure is squatting on his haunches with his hands over his breast. He has two cigar-shaped projections depicting long ears. The Rapanui inserted discs or spools in their ear lobes to make them larger. The figure is covered with the remnants of a reddish ochre paint which survives in the crevices and seams.
