Inserida num vasto pátio revestido com pedras de cantaria, é protegida por paredões em alvenaria. Ao fundo, sua fachada é delineada por grande quadro, ladeado por duas pilastras ornadas com frisos e encimadas por coruchéus. Estas pilastras apoiam um entablamento encimado por frontão decorado com símbolos pagãos e cristãos, contendo, no topo, uma estátua de Netuno, em pedra. Abaixo, situam-se três janelas gradeadas de ferro, dando acesso às galerias e, na base, uma série de carrancas de pedra com biqueiras de bronze, através das quais as águas são canalizadas, caindo em tanques lajeados. Daí, por uma espécie de rego, ao longo de pátio, escoam em direção à antiga Praia do Caju. As galerias subterrâneas são o ponto alto da fonte. Segundo a tradição, serviam de comunicação entre várias igrejas locais no tempo dos jesuítas. Têm forma arqueada (abobada de berço) e sentido transversal/longitudinal em grande extensão. |
