Title
English: Carousel at Luna Park, Seattle, circa 1913
Description
English:

In 1906, construction began on Luna Park at Alki Point in West Seattle. Named for Coney Island's Luna Park, it extended out over the water. From 1907 to 1913, adults and children flocked to the amusement park to enjoy its carousel, roller coaster, dancing, swimming, drinking, and other pleasures. The park's developer Charles Looff hand-carved the carousel figures. Luna Park fell into financial and legal problems, and closed in 1913. This image shows Luna Park's carousel building late in its life. The carousel itself was moved to San Francisco, where it operates as the Zeum Carousel. Curiously, the carousel had been originally intended for San Francisco, but was diverted to Seattle due to San Francisco's 1906 earthquake.
