Object type painting
object_type QS:P31,Q3305213
Description
English: So-called Portrait of Karoline Luise of Hesse-Darmstadt, Margravine of Baden-Durlach (1723-1783), but is probably a depiction of Maria Anna of Schwarzenberg, Margravine of Baden-Baden (1706-1755).
  • Identification proposed by user Ecummenic (talk) based on the comparison with a portrait of Maria Anna of Schwarzenberg (see images below) and the lack of physical resemblance of the sitter of this portrait to verified representations of Karoline of Hesse-Darmstadt.
Date dated by the museum as a work of 1776, but based on the sitter's clothing and hairstyle it can be dated to around 1730
