Summary
[edit]DescriptionCarl C. Schultz Building and Anthony Kelly Grocery Warehouse, Washington Avenue and N 2nd Avenue, Warehouse District, Minneapolis, MN.jpg |
English: On the left, built in 1887, this Queen Anne-style building was built for Carl C. Schultz. The red brick building features extensive large limestone trim elements, a blind arch above the central third story windows, a cornice with extensive brick corbeling, a storefront with cast iron columns, double-hung two-over-two windows, and brick pilasters between the windows.
On the right, built in 1877, this Italianate-style warehouse was built for Anthony Kelly & Company, a wholesale grocery distributor, which later became known as the Wolpert & Sons Grocery Company. The building received a rear addition made of red brick in 1892, which now houses the infamous Sex World. The building features a rusticated stone and red brick facade, a bracketed cornice, arched second-story windows, decorative window headers with rosettes, a first floor storefront with stone pilasters and cast iron columns, with the rear addition featuring arched windows on the third and fourth floors, stone pilasters at the base, and simpler brick details. The structure has been adaptively reused as office space on the upper floors, and retail spaces on the first floor. The buildings are contributing structures in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. |
