Summary
[edit]DescriptionCarbonic Acid Factory, Lea Bridge Dock, Clapton E5.jpg |
English: Development of the former OTV site, taken from the cast iron bridge to the dock, installed in 1853.
Fortunately there is some recent archive material available (no longer available) www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=12967 The writer of this piece has taken some brilliant archive photos showing the original cast iron windows of the carbonic acid factory (for comparison, see e.g. Stretham Engine near Ely) plus the interesting concrete framed, wedge-shaped OTV building, since demolished. A Paradise Cottage stood here in the early 1800s but the 1868 OS map shows this as Ashpitals Dock, only becoming Lea Bridge Dock on the 1894 map. |
