Français : L'Etoile et La Belle Poule au port par mer agitée, Galerie de l'Astrée. Note: L'Etoile et La Belle Poule en port de Toulon par mer calme ». Deux huiles sur toiles formant une paire. Chaque signée en bas à droite. 72 x 100 cm. Littérature : Elève de Pierre Letuaire, il figure au Salon de Paris de 1828 à 1849 et obtient son premier prix en 1835. Cet officier d'administration de la Marine voyage à travers les océans et peint des marines à l'esprit romantique avec une gamme de couleurs sombres et claires en opposition. Nos tableaux représentent les frégates à un et deux ponts, L'étoile et La Belle Poule, qui sont représentées à tour de rôle en premier et en deuxième plan. La marine par temps calme illustre les deux frégates dans le port de Toulon. Les bateaux sont peints avant le départ de La Belle Poule le 7 juillet 1840 pour l'île de Sainte Hélène.Après un long périple, La Belle Poule accostera le 30 novembre 1840 à Cherbourg avec à son bord les cendres de Napoléon. |
