Sudden Death of Captain Woodhull of Port Jefferson as His Ship Was Ready to Sail. Port Jefferson, Long Island; February 18, 1899. Captain George B. Woodhull, a resident of this place, died yesterday afternoon while in the ferry house at Tompkinsville, Staten Island. He was about to take the ferry to New York when he was taken suddenly ill and expired before medical aid could be summoned. The remains were taken to the Coroner's office and his friends notified. His vessel, the schooner Anna, is ready for sea and the crew are on board. But for the ice in the harbor, she would have been on her voyage yesterday. The remains will be brought to this place tomorrow and buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Captain Woodhull was 50 years of age. He was born in this village and has followed a seafaring life since boyhood. He leaves a widow and two children, Mrs. Charles Piatt and Joel Woodhull. He was a member of Port Jefferson Council, R. A., and also of the Suffolk County Mutual Benefit Association. This makes the third death which has occurred among the seafaring men of this place during the past two weeks. Through the death of Captain Woodhull and that of Captain Charles Kinner, which took place last Saturday, two sisters are made widows in less than a week.
