Description

Native, warm-season, perennial, erect, tufted grass; to 1.5 m tall and with hairy nodes. Ligules are surrounded by long hairs. Flowerheads are purplish open panicles (10-20 cm long) of short racemes on slender branches; emits a scent when crushed. The racemes have 3-8 pairs of dissimilar spikelets (one unstalked and awned, the other stalked and unawned). Flowers from spring to autumn. Found in ungrazed-lightly grazed and lower fertility areas,

especially along roadsides and in native/naturalised pastures and woodlands.
