Description

Edificada no século XV como sede da Confraria do Espírito Santo dos Mareantes de Sesimbra, possuía uma capela e um sprital (hospital), arruinados com o terramoto de 1755. O hospital foi encerrado e permaneceu a Capela, até meados do século XX. De planta rectangular, e com fachada de estilo barroco, o edifício organizava-se no seu interior por dois pisos: a capela, no superior, e o antigo sprital, no inferior, surgindo neste último grafitos parietais de embarcações datadas do século XVII-XVIII. Foi classificada como Imóvel de Interesse Público pelo Decreto-lei n.º 129/77 de 29 de Setembro, e em 2000, a Câmara Municipal de Sesimbra, em parceria com a Direcção Geral de Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais iniciou a sua recuperação. A intervenção ficou concluída em Dezembro de 2004, altura em que abriu ao público como núcleo do Museu Municipal de Sesimbra.
