Summary
[edit]DescriptionCapel yr Annibynwyr, Nasareth Independent Chapel - geograph.org.uk - 259317.jpg |
English: Capel yr Annibynwyr, Nasareth Independent Chapel This small chapel was built in 1823. The Independents, otherwise known as Congregationalists, and descended from Old Dissenters, did not make much progress in the slate quarrying districts where the Calvinistic Methodists followed a policy of vigorous proselytizing. It was the Independents, however, who started the practice of giving biblical names to their chapels, a practice soon followed by other denominations. Many of the new slate communities springing up on the upland commons adopted the names of these chapels as their own. Nasareth, or Nazareth as it was known then, being a case in point. |
