Description
English: Cantilever sign of a craftsman with a stylised lindworm, roofing tools in the sign, in rue des Forgerons 9, Fribourg, Switzerland. The inn ‘Auberge de la Couronne’ used to be here. The depicted sign no longer draws attention to the historical function of the building.

Object history The sign was owned by locksmith J. Hess, who bought it around 1902/03 for his workshop near the present Hôtel de la Rose. After the Auberge de la Couronne closed, the roofer Franz Waeber bought the property. He took over the Hess locksmith's shop sign from his father-in-law and installed it, with adaptations, on his building at Rue des Forgerons 9. He replaced the original keys with a plaque bearing the insignia of roofers.
