Description

The cure of Ethelreda of Canterbury, suffering from Quartan fever, a form of malaria, It causes fevers that recur at approximately three-day intervals. In the first panel, she is about to drink from a bowl offered by a priest. "ARVIT EXSANGVIS REDIT HVASTO SANGVINE SANGVIS" (She was dried up, bloodless. When the blood [of St Thomas] had been drunk, her blood came back).

In the second panel a priest mixes a draught with a spoon, and there is a man with a flask. "CESSANT QUARTANE VIS FORMA SVBIT QVASI SANE" (The quartan fevers depart, her strength, her figure come back as in health).
