Original Message ----- From : Zena Brabazon To : Chair of the Board, British Telecom Cc : Tottenham Hale ward councillors; Cllr Stuart McNamara; Stephen McDonnell Haringey Environment Department. Sent : Sunday, October 04, 2015 11:48 AM Subject : BT 'flowerbed' Dowsett Road N17 I am writing again regarding the BT ‘flowerbed’ on Dowsett Road N17. I had hoped to receive – at minimum – an acknowledgment from you on behalf of Sir Michael, and some indication as to whether or not BT was responsible and if it was, what action you were taking. As you know from my previous email of September 24 this ‘raised flower bed’ is being used as a skip and dustbin for drinkers. The photos attached were taken yesterday afternoon and you can see quite clearly that the pile of rubbish and cans has increased since September 24. The only ‘improvement’ is that the abandoned mattress has gone. As I said before, I am told this is BT’s land. If that is the case, can BT please clear it, and as I said previously, think about a longer term plan to deal with this problem site. If it isn’t your land then I apologise for writing to you and asking for you to take action. If it is yours, then it cannot be right that you leave it in this condition undermining any local efforts to improve the area. I would add that, if it is yours, then this ‘flowerbed’ does nothing to enhance BT’s reputation for social responsibility. I repeat my suggestion that the best solution would be to design it out since it simply attracts drinkers, rubbish dumping and fly-tipping. If BT own it, it must surely be within your resources to deal with this problem, and I know residents would be pleased to work with BT on this. Either way, a response from BT would be appreciated. I have copied this email to Mr Stephen McDonnell who leads on enforcement for Haringey Council, since if it is the Council’s land they need to accept responsibility for the appalling situation and they need to come up with a plan. If it isn’t the Council’s then by way of this email I am alerting the local authority and am asking them to intervene. I would be grateful to receive a reply ________________________________________ Zena got a prompt and helpful reply from a local BT manager. See below for recent news. |
