Español: ACHERNAR y CANOPUS.
Achernar o Alfa Eridanus, del río Eridano, es la estrella más brillante de la constelación austral. Tiene una magnitud aparente de +0,5 y se encuentra a una distancia del Sol de 91,3 años luz. Canopus o Alfa Carina (Ex alfa del Navío Argos), es la más brillante de la constelación austral y la segunda mas brillante de los dos hemisferios celestes luego de Sirio. Canopus tiene una magnitud aparente de -0,72 y de nuestra estrella, el Sol, a 205 años luz de distancia. Ambas estrellas se encuentran separadas por 39º 24’ 32.37” y se observan siempre en todas las noches claras del año desde los -37º de latitud hasta los -90º. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º) y observando hacia el horizonte Sur, Achernar se la ve pasar por el meridiano del lugar (culminación) a una altura de 70º y a Canopus a 75º.
