Må vi revurdere hele historien til canidene?

Ny forskning viser at den indiske stammen av C.l.pallipes er unik og kanskje må revurderes som en egen art (Canis indica) eller underart (Canis lupus indica). Den antas å være 400.000 år gammel, hvilket er mye eldre enn tidligere antatt. Samme studie viser også at indisklevende tibetanske ulver (C.l.chanco) er ennå eldre, antatt omkring 800.000 år eller eldre, og skiller seg ennå klarere fra ulver man trodde var samme underart i bl.a. Mongolia og Kina. Også den må derfor revurderes som egen art (Canis himalayeansis) eller underart (Canis lupus himalayeansis).
