Summary
[edit]DescriptionCanford Priory - From the South (8299962600).jpg |
Taken on a beautiful winter's day, this is the Saxon/Norman Church of Canford. Its situated in a very pretty location next to Canford School and the River Stour. The church to the right of the Tower is Saxon!! The oldest bit of the church which is the South Porch, is from Norman times! This used to be a priory! The Tower is in a very odd place - almost acting as a North Transept. People are often quite rude about this church but I think its lovely. The Tower contains an historic ring of 6 bells, tenor is 9-2-24 in Gb! The back five were all cast in 1739 by William Knight. The treble was cast in 1898 by Mears and Stainbank. They were rehung but not retuned by Whites of Appleton in January-March 2012. Although they may not be the most tuneful bells, they defiantly have a lot of character and the sound of the bells themselves has not changed since 1739. |
