Kommentar: Aufgrund der Buchstabenform und des Perlrandes wohl erst um Verlauf des 17. Jhs. entstanden [so Hill (1930) 217; Börner (1997) 88]. - Candida gilt als der Wegbereiter der Renaissancemedaille nördlich der Alpen. Er hat längere Zeit am Hofe Karls des Kühnen und Maximilians in Burgund gewirkt und Porträts geschaffen. Er soll aus einer vornehmen Familie Neapels stammen und für den diplomatischen Dienst ausgebildet worden sein. Die Medailleursarbeit betrieb er nur nebenbei. Nachweisbar war er seit 1467 am Hofe Karls des Kühnen als dessen Sekretär und Diplomat. Nach dem Tode Karls des Kühnen 1477 in der Schlacht bei Nancy übernahm ihn Maximilian als Sekretär, 1479 fiel er allerdings in Ungnade und kam ins Gefängnis. Nach seiner Rehabilitierung 1480 ging er an den Hof Karls VIII. von Frankreich. Robert Briçonnet wurde wohl 1488 Präsident und war ein Förderer Candidas.
