Canaris, chef de l'insurrection grecque (1792-1860) Oeuvre de David d'Angers (1788-1856) 1852 buste réalisé pendant l'exil en Grèce Oeuvre exposée sur la mezzanine de la galerie David d'Angers (Angers) David d'Angers a été exilé de France après le 2 décembre 1851 pour "républicanisme", il trouva refuge à Athènes. Ecarté des milieux officiels, il se lia avec la petite colonie française dont faisaient partie les membres de l'Ecole d'Athènes et tout particulièrement avec le jeune archéologue et écrivain Edmond About qu'il rencontra le 31 mai 1852. Celui-ci a écrit dans son livre la Grèce contemporaine que David d'Angers a commencé le buste de Canaris le 5 juin 1852. Le 15 novembre 1852, David d'Angers quitta Athènes pour Trieste, après une escale à Missolonghi puis il se rendit à Nice où il resta jusqu'en mars 1853 avant de pouvoir regagner Paris. |
