Acquaforte misure lastra mm 142 × 210, foglio mm 217 × 152 Pittore disegnatore e incisore, è considerato il più importante vedutista veneziano di tutti i tempi. Viene inizialmente avviato dal padre alla professione di scenografo. Nel 1719 si stabilisce a Roma per due anni subendo l’influenza Gaspar Van Wittel e realizzando diversi disegni con vedute romane. Una volta tornato a Venezia prende contatto con il mercante-collezionista Joseph Smith. Tra i due nascerà un proficuo rapporto professionale. La fama di Canaletto crescerà notevolmente negli anni successivi, guadagnando grande stima soprattutto da parte dei collezionisti stranieri residenti a Venezia. Tutte le incisioni di Canaletto sono realizzate tra il 1741 e il 1744. La serie viene intitolata “Le Vedute altre prese da i luoghi altre ideate”, ed è composta da una trentina di acqueforti. Successivamente alcune lastre, che erano state lavorate in modo da riportare più composizioni sullo stesso supporto, vengono tagliate, aumentando il numero della serie. La prima edizione viene eseguita nel 1752. Nel ’46 l’artista raggiunge Londra, ove risiederà per ben dieci anni prima del ritorno definitivo nella Serenissima. Nelle sue incisioni Canaletto riesce attraverso un attento uso del tratteggio a creare eccellenti effetti luministici. Impressione eccellente, nitida e ricca di toni nell’unico stato. Esemplare in tiratura postuma remondiniana collocabile tra il 1772 e il 1799. Firma in lastra in basso al centro “A. Canal. f.” Perfetto stato di conservazione. Margini da 3 a 8 mm.
