| Description | A major development that really put trade, commerce and growth on the fast track (literally) was the advent of the railways. (railroads). Canada had two major networks: Canadian National and Canadian Pacific, both of which were merged to form VIA Rail Canada for passenger traffic. Freight is still handled by Canadian National. Here is a mock up of an erstwhile Canadian Pacific train station. Inside was a waiting room, ticket windows, and a film playing in a continuous loop outlining the importance of the railways (railroads) in Canada's development. (Ottawa, Canada, Dec. 2012) |
