tains. The Washburn Range separates the Gardiner and Yellowstone rivers;this range is also called Elephants Back. The chief is Mount Washburn,of course; the others are Dunraven, Hedges, Folsom, Prospect, Storm andObservation, with an average altitude of nearly 10,000 feet. The Red Mountain Range has for its chief one of the most picturesquepeaks in the Park,.Mount Sheridan. The others are Factory Hill, probably 38 so called on account of there being no factories anywhere near, and some minormountains. Big Game Range is south of the Red Mountain; Hancock and Grave arethe principal peaks. The Teton Range is not in the Park, but just south of the southern border,rising almost from the very waters of Jackson Lake. There are three or fourpeaks called the Tetons; the highest, the Grand Teton, is 13,750 feet high,the loftiest peak north of Colorado. In the southwest region of the Park are minor ranges and peaks, amongwhich are Sunset, Wild Cat, Huckleberry, Bobcat, Forellen and Mount Moriah.

CAMPERS. The Indians had great excuse for their legend, calling this the Top of theWorld. ^ ^ P THE PLATEAUS—The Madison is on the west side, altitude 8,400 feet, andsouth of it is Pitchstone, 8,600 feet, with Thoroughfare Plateau, 8,000 feet, inthe southeast corner. Two Ocean Plateau is just south of the YellowstoneLake; Mirror Plateau is in the northeast region of the Park, and SolfataraPlateau is just w^est of the Great Falls of the Yellowstone. Highland Plateauis in the northeast corner, 8,350 feet. THE GREAT CONTINENTAL DIVIDE crosses the Park from about midwayof the west border, running to the southeast corner. The Circuit Drive crossesthe Divide twice between the Upper Basin and the Lake. Waters flowing 39 from the west slope find their way to the Pacific, those on the east to theGulf of Mexico.
