This photo, taken from inside the Grotto Cave on the refuge, shows an endangered native cycad (Cycas marianensis) also known as the Fadang or Federico nut. Its fruit contains a toxin that can be removed in an 8- to 10-day-long process that yields a flour used in tortillas or dumplings.
