| Description |
English: Cambridge Locomotive Depot, with a 'Super-Claud' 4-4-0. View SW, from the north end of Cambridge's famous long platform; ex-Great Eastern Railway. Class D16/3 No. 62527 is leaving on a northbound stopping train, probably for Ely or Newmarket. The Locomotive Depot, which adjoined the Station was the principal one of the area (coded 31A on the Eastern Region of BR), having an allocation of 102 locomotives in 1950, comprising 28 4-6-0, 12 4-4-0, 8 2-4-0, 41 0-6-0, 4 4-4-2T, 1 2-4-2T, 8 0-6-0T. There was a preponderance of ancient ex-GE types, two of which can be glimpsed here. |
