| Description |
Going against the tide at the stunning and stunningly huge Angkor Wat. Our first day in SIem Reap, we high-tailed it to Angkor Wat to catch it at sunset. After 5:30pm, the temples are free, which is nice given the daily rate was $20 USD. The reason it is free of course is that they start closing the sites and kicking everyone out. Hence the heavy flow of tourists coming our way. But we were never ones to let little things like closing times and rules get in our way (tactics well-honed in India) so rather than the lightning in and out for sunset shots that our tuk-tuk driver was expecting, we went completely through the site, smilingly dodged the security guards' attempts to usher us outward and had the wonderful experience of seeing this site nearly alone. That the light was gone by the time we exited didn't lower the experience at all. This was to become a regular tactic in our time in Angkor. |
