English: Pvt. Rosa Ruiz of the 149th Chemical Company, 579th Engineer Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, California Army National Guard, scans a civilian for gamma radiation Nov. 4 during the 2011 Arizona Statewide Vigilant Guard Exercise in Phoenix. The exercise is designed to enhance the California National Guard’s disaster response capabilities to devastating state emergencies such as an improvised nuclear device detonation. Vigilant Guard is preparing the 49th Military Police Brigade to assume the role as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region IX military disaster coordinator, or Homeland Response Force asset. |
