Description |
English: California Market opened under proprietor David Sutter around 1896, at the corner of Pike Street and 4th Avenue. By 1900, the meat market had moved to the corner of Second Avenue and Madison Street, selling "Beef, Pork, Mutton, Salt and Corned Meats, Sausage, etc. Game and Poultry." This invoice from California Market lists the purchases of a Mrs. John Collins of 702 Minor Avenue for the month of July 1901, and is stamped as paid in full on August 19. Mrs. Collins' purchases include "Lamb, Hamburger, Soup, Vegt" for $2.45 and "Chix, Stk, chix bones" for $2.25."
