Summary

[edit]
Description This historic and very neglected Victorian-era wood frame home falls just outside of the Old Bond Hill Historic District, which means it isn't covered by the protections (which in this city, are so limited that they may as well not exist at all) that could otherwise be extended to it. Probably constructed around the turn-of-the-Century, the restaurant in the front appeared to have become vacant despite a recent attempt to make it viable, and the house has a broken stained glass Queen Anne-style window on the side, which has been boarded up from the inside, leaving the structure open to possible damage, as well as a large number of old cars and other items in the fenced side yard, which do not appear to be usable. The original clapboard siding and Carpenter Gothic-style dormer above the front door have been covered with aluminum siding, as well as aluminum awnings, which likely date to the 1970s. Though repainted and having attempts made to make the building look better and have more viability, it seems this hasn't panned out, and, like many historic buildings in the neighborhood, it is in a state of neglect that could very well lead to the loss of this historic house and the storefront along the street makes a vital contribution to the possible future viability of the Bond Hill-California Avenue business district. This home may be neglected and in rough shape, but it does have a lot of potential with its unique setup and location, and really needs the right person to come along and give it the attention and care that it deserves.
