Summary
[edit]DescriptionCalgary Beach - geograph.org.uk - 500050.jpg |
English: Calgary Beach This (relatively) small machair backed sandy beach is a popular destination for visitors to Mull. This puts pressure on the machair as it consists mostly of sand with a thin layer of vegetation stabilising it. The parking area has to be re-inforced and there is matting surrounding it protecting the vegetation. The problems are made worse by rabbit borrows. Marram grass was introduced to stabilise the dune front after the January 2005 storms. A good example of a raised wave cut platform (land rising after the weight of ice was removed 12000 years ago) is in the background. |
