El día bisiesto, como se dijo, se daba cada 4 años en el Calendario Juliano (de 365,250 días) y comparado con el año tropical (de 365,242 días) se acumulaba 1 día cada 128 años adelantándose así el Equinoccio respecto del 21 de Marzo y en un período desde el 300 al 1582 se adelantó tal Equinoccio 10 días antes del 21 de Marzo, es decir se cumplía el 11 de Marzo en 1582. Es por ello que el Papa Gregorio XIII con la ayuda del sabio astrónomo calabrés Luigi Lilio, pasó el día siguiente del 4 de Octubre de 1582 al 15 de Octubre de ese mismo año para que en el 1583 el Equinoccio volviera a ocurrir el 21 de Marzo, además de considerar nuevamente un bisiesto cada 4 años y que no lo fuesen los años que caen en las centurias que no son divisibles por 400 (resultado o cociente distinto al entero), por ejemplo: el 1700, 1800 y 1900 no fueron bisiestos, pero si el 2000. El 2100, 2200 y 2300 no lo serán, sí el 2400. De esta manera y con la nueva regla de las centurias no quedaría desfasado el 21 de Marzo con el Equinoccio, el otro Equinoccio y los Solsticios. |
